Why is it important to step out of your comfort zone and connect with new people?
You may tend to shy away from the idea of meeting new people simply because you’d feel uncomfortable. But discomfort can be two things: necessary and, more importantly, temporary. Of course it seems terrifying at first but once you start and get a momentum going, that discomfort quickly fades away. And who really knows that you’re feeling uncomfortable anyway? Think of it this way: you’re in a room full of unfamiliar faces, what are the odds that you’re the only one who feels uncomfortable? You’re most likely not alone and there you are doing something pretty amazing by simply showing up, which – by the way – is usually the hardest part. So congrats!
If you want to see change, you have to be ready to change the way you do things.
When you meet and connect with new people and have the opportunity to self-promote, you just may end up discovering new things about yourself! There may be a skill or quality that you may not necessarily focus on (or haven’t in a long while) that suddenly becomes highlighted as a strength. The next thing you know, it’s like like seeing yourself through a new set of eyes when you are asked new questions and then evaluate your skill-set. These discoveries can in turn improve your feelings of self-worth.
So it’s important that once you find an event that suits your needs to take a chance and attend. This not only helps your professional growth but also your personal development, plus you build your network and even make new friends.
So, what are you waiting for? Get out there!
